36 students, four parents and two teachers had a delightful eight day Ski Tour via Dunedin to Queenstown during the vacation. Heavy snowfalls shortly before arrival ensured good snow cover and even heavy intermittent rain in the last days failed to disrupt the skiing and boarding.
Everyone showed great energy and enthusiasm to maximise the two days at Cardrona and three days at Coronet Peak Ski Fields. Their persistence and passion ensured they quickly developed skills and covered lots of terrain. The final day consisted of Jet Boating on Kawarau River and Shotover River, final shopping in Queenstown, a ride on the Skyline Gondola, luge riding and a sumptuous evening dinner overlooking Queenstown in the Skyline Gondola Restaurant.
Congratulations to all the students for their impeccable behaviour and contagious sense of fun. They represented the College, their families and themselves with real dignity. The following email from Mark Johnston, the bus driver we had for the trip, is an indication of the impression the students created with many people:
“I was so impressed with your Siena students and their behaviour and manners, such a credit to you and your school. The trip was so enjoyable for me as well. … The beautiful card and kind words from you all, I have read many times, and made me feel quite emotional, thank you and pass on my sincerest thanks to the kids. I do hope to see you all in the future.”
Thank you also to the enthusiastic parents who accompanied us: Therese Pollock, Tim Letchford, Barry Nak, Paul Nyahwa for their great company, support and sense of humour.
